Issy Kleiman, MA, LMFT (206) 579-8825
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist 15811 Ambaum Blvd SW, Suite #110, Burien, WA 98166 Niche Specialty©: Children and Adolescents. Therapy with a child can often include play therapy, story-telling and careful observation with respect to the child's ways of communicating their own thoughts and experiences. Play therapy is a well established method for dealing with the limitation of communicating with children. In play therapy, a child is able to express their experience through the act of play. Play therapy entails a different language, a symbolic language with which a therapist is trained to understand and translate.
One of the most important facets of child therapy is the joining process and the therapeutic relationship that develops between the child and the therapist. It is extremely important that the child feels safe, comfortable and understood. In my work with children, the goal is to join and assist the child in working through issues in his/her own language by providing a safe environment and a set of skills and tools that we explore and learn to apply together.
Location: My office is located within Seahurst Chiropractic and Wellness Center, just north west of five corners and 160th in Burien. General Practice Area: My approach to therapy is warm, non-judgmental, collaborative, and conversational. I generally work from family systems, structural and symbolic experiential theoretical orientations. In addition, I often incorporate additional approaches to best meet the needs of my clients. I use elements of play therapy and story telling in my work with children.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist in the State of Washington, I have extensive experience working with children, teens, and adults who present with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns.
Among my areas of expertise are the treatment of: Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Eating disorders, Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), Conduct disorder, ADD/ADHD, Relationships, Substance Abuse
Anger management, Work or career challenges, Life transitions, Grief and loss.
I help my clients to "go within" and discover themselves and their guiding principles. I will also help them develop authorship of their lives and succeed in their goals. I am passionate about guiding my clients through a process of self-discovery, helping them learn about their strengths and weaknesses, and assisting them in developing more effective coping skills and communication techniques.
I use multiple modalities of counseling, teaching, learning, and healing, and incorporate various psycho-social-educational models within a culture and gender sensitive framework.

My wife and I have enjoyed a long marriage and have two grown children. Among my interests are sailing and playing the piano. [ Email David Wells ]

Drawbridge Counseling Kathryn (Katy) Schumaker MA LMHC ATR (206) 948-5289 Licensed Mental Health Counselor 636 SW 152nd St., Burien, WA 98166 Niche Specialty©: Art Therapy. I am a registered Art Therapist and received my Master's Degree in Psychology AND Art Therapy. Many of my clients are terrified when first offered art materials during a session. Many people are worried that their art making will not be aesthetically pleasing. Many fear using materials they have never used before. It is completely normal to feel nervous...most of us stopped making art when we were very young, thus our artwork will often reflect the age at which we ceased creating art in our lives. Here are some thoughts on what Art Therapy IS and IS NOT...and don't worry! If you don't want to make art in a session, you don't have to!
ART THERAPY IS:
....a way to get images out of your head and on to paper (or other mediums) which might allow you to better process troubling emotions, point to aspects of your thoughts, and open new methods of how to communicate about things that are difficult to talk about.
...RELAXING! Believe it or not, making art may stimulate areas in your brain that increase the feelings of relaxation.
ART THERAPY IS NOT:
...only for children. Art Therapy helps children and adults alike to express things that might be difficult to talk about, whether you have the words to do so or not.
...only for artists. Many people are afraid that the finished product in an art therapy session will be judged. In fact, it is the PROCESS of creating the art piece that is so important. Most of my clients have had NO formal art training. Stick Figures are WELCOME! Location: Located inside of the One Earth Natural Medicine Clinic in the heart of downtown Burien, 15 minutes away from Seattle, with abundant parking. General Practice Area: I am very passionate about my work, my clients, and my art. I have worked for over 15 years in the counseling and helping professions, with adults, children, and families going through transitions and crises. Drawbridge Counseling is my private practice where I work primarily with adults who are suffering from depression, anxiety, loss, PTSD, grief, anger, interpersonal relationship problems, communication difficulties, transition, and any combination of these.
