Mental Health (chronic disorders). I can help with depression and mood disorders. Therapy ought to be the place where ALL of a person is invited in, not only the suffering self, but the future self waiting for expression. I believe also that we live in a time of fear, pervasive and subtle messages that affect us all, and the work of therapy is to metabolize that fear by making it conscious and by making decisions. I believe this work makes a person less afraid. Being well-adjusted to an odd culture is not a measure of health. More and more, the real risk for a person is how to live deeply, to have one's own experience and meaning--no matter how it looks and feels. --male counselor, Ballard area of Seattle, Washington.

Parenting Counselor or Counseling

Parenting Problems & Skills. Counseling to insure the basic elements of parenting that are needed for stability, emotional well-being and to help raise healthy, well-adjusted kids.--female counselor, Edmonds, Washington.

Parents seek out counseling when concern for their child becomes too difficult to handle alone. Often they just want to know if something serious is going on or if what they are experiencing is "normal". They may feel anxious and worried about being judged. Parents who seek out support are acting courageously and want the best for their child. I approach child work collaboratively, which means working with the parents is essential. I try to provide a non-judgmental space for parents to explore their parenting as well as their own childhood to come to a better understanding of the dynamics created between themselves and their child. Sometimes meeting with just parents provides enough support to create healthy change in the child. Most of the time parenting work takes the family to a good point, but the child still benefits from being seen for individual treatment. --female counselor, in Madison Park area of Seattle, Washington.

People often consult with me about long-standing difficulties in relationships or work situations, or else they present symptoms including anxiety and depression related to physical illness, work stress, or childhood abuse. They may have already identified “the problem”—either on their own or in previous therapy—but have not been able to successfully make lasting changes in their thoughts, feelings and behavior. Through our work, my aim is to identify troubling or destructive behavior and to make constructive changes with the aim of establishing more positive patterns. --female counselor, Bellevue, Washington.

Break-ups, adolescence, moving, and transitioning from college can pose particular challenge. Working with a skilled professional can help you to get moving in the right direction. --female counselor, Downtown area of Seattle, Washington.

Are you a woman or a man just out of college? leaving home? getting married? having a child? getting divorced? facing an illness? All these situations come with difficulties that can throw one off center. I help each person find their inner voice to lead them to a more full and meaningful life. Paying close attention to thoughts, emotions and body feelings is the first step. The goal is the integration of all aspects of one's being. --female counselor, Downtown area of Seattle, Washington.

Transitions (life changes). Stress from change can be a result of age, life-stage, graduation, new job, marriage/divorce, family system, overcoming burdens, taking on responsibilities, etc. Most of life is change, and many times we need someone to walk beside us as we go through those changes. --female counselor, West area of Seattle, Washington.

Transitions (life changes). Helping you discover the soulful intention of your life's journey, even during times of crisis, suffering or change. --female counselor, Tacoma, Washington.

Transitions (life changes) --female counselor, Lynnwood, Washington.

While grief can be a part of this journey, the freedom we have, and what we chose to do with that freedom, is a major characteristic of these groups.--female counselor, Freemont Area of Seattle, Washington.

Women's Issues. I welcome the opportunity to counsel both women and men. In this, I do maintain a focus and active interest in women's issues. I believe that depression, anxiety, body image issues etc. express their symptoms differently in women and men and should be treated uniquely. My life experiences, both personally and professionally have fully equipped me to treat these issues as they apply specifically to women and men and I look forward to meet your needs as they arise. --female counselor, Bellevue, Washington.

I specialize in helping women let got of being "good girls" so that they can be truly great. "Good girls" are women who take a lot of personal responsibility, which is actually a great quality, UNTIL it's done to excess. Good girls are smart, sweet, helpful, humble, and kind, but they aren't supposed to be TOO smart, happy, or successful. They've been taught they should always be polite, civil and forgiving, and never disagreeable, loud, or angry. Being a Good Girl is exhausting and diminishes women's intrinsic value. When personal responsibility becomes self-censure, when you believe some feelings are "unacceptable," and when you value keeping the peace over expressing your needs, then you have a problem. This self-repression can result in depression, suppressed anger, chronic anxiety, and general life suckiness. I help you stop the cycle of shaming self-censure and find your true voice. --female counselor, Seattle, Eastlake area, Washington.

Women's Issues. Adults and their families in transition - aging parents, illnesses, parenting, launching children, grandparenting.
