Eating disorders occur among all age groups, including children, and most commonly develop during adolescents. I provide individual and family counseling, and consultation to parents and/or a spouse. It is normal for family members to feel powerless and frustrated. Many of my clients are referred by Children's Hospital. I team closely with their medical staff, including dietitians. If detected early, an eating disorder is often quickly resolved. Once in the moderate to severe stages, I require that my clients see a physician, and usually, and a dietitian during at various times during treatent. When helping those with anorexia or bulimia, I focus on body image including body dismorphia and emotions related to food and weight, especially anxiety and co-occuring depression. Art is often used during sessions, and I frequently give homework to be completed between sessions.
