(B.) Another question from a potential counselor:
I am interest in chemical dependency counselor as a career. I
have an Associate of Arts degree (AA) in general business from a
community college.
What courses would I
have to take to become a chemical dependency counselor in Washington
State?
(C.) Counselor question about private practice counseling:
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and I have been doing
private practice counseling for 27 years. Some of my fellow
counselors say that I cannot continue to do private practice
counseling after July 1, 2009. My Papa used to say, “If you see it
on CounselingSeattle.com, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth;
will I have to give up
private practice counseling?
(D) Counselor question about becoming a Certified
Counselor: I’ve been reading much on the new regulations
for Certified Counselors in Washington State and the required
classes to meet the new requirements. I’m not finding much
information on
where or who offers the classes.
(E) Where I can find information on schools with degree programs for people who
wish to become counselors? I'm not sure where to look. What are
the requirements in Washington State for being a counselor? Do you
think it matters whether one pursues an AA degree or an AS before they
start on the road toward becoming a counselor?
(F)
Working as
a Certified Counselor to obtain hours for licensure: I
am wondering if I become licensed as a certified counselor, which it
seems I can charge clients, and work with a supervisor to accumulate
my 3000 hours, if that will count towards my post-grad work to
become a licensed counselor. Also, will a certified counselor be
able to bill insurance companies?

7. Question
about repaying Student Loans:
Yes,
there is a 2009 federal stimulus package aimed at helping certain
licensed counselors repay their loans more quickly and easily
through public service.
