Internet Usage -- by Sex


The following is part of a email report "Men Are From Google, Women Are From Yahoo," in the WebProNews Insider Report by Jason Lee Miller, Editor, Thursday December 29, 2005 (Jason is a staff writer for WebProNews covering technology and business).

Here are some stats for the number crunchers:

• 67% of the adult American population goes online, including 68% of men and 66% of women

• 86% of women ages 18-29 are online, compared with 80% of men that age.

• 34% of men 65 and older use the Internet, compared with 21% of women that age.

• 62% of unmarried men compared with 56% of unmarried women go online

• 75% of married women and 72% of married men go online

• 61% of childless men compared with 57% of childless women go online

• 81% of men with children and 80% of women with children go online.

• 52% of men and 48% of women have high-speed connections at home

• 94% of online women and 88% of online men use email

 Footnote:   I originally reported 4,058 page views on the Workshop Calendar page for 2009, but wondered why the count had dropped from the previous year. It was not until 3/25/10 that I noticed that Google/analytics was not even listing the page in site results.  Investigating further, it turned out that the HTML code for Google/Analytics had accidentally been deleted from the page on 6/4/09. From that point on, regardless of page activity, the page count for the Workshop Calendar was zero. Since the accident occurred in almost the exact middle of the year, we can project that the actual number of page views in 2009 would have been closer to 8,116.
