WAAOC = Washington Association for Addictions and Offenders Counselors The WCA Newsletter, March 2001, announced the formation of a new division for chemical dependency treatment professionals, counselors in the addiction and/or offender fields, individuals who advocate for the appropriate treatment for such populations, or individuals who work in a related field or have an interest in this field. WAC =  Washington Administrative Code.  Laws passed by the Washington State Legislature are published in the Revised Code of Washington.  To aid in implementation, government departments must interpret and translate the laws into rules and guidelines.  These are published as the Washington Administrative Code or WAC.

WACMHC = Washington Association of Community, and Migrant Health Centers, 19226 66th Avenue S., Suite L-102, Kent WA 98032.  Phone: 425-656-0848.

WADMHP = Washington Association of Designated Mental Health Professionals [AKA: Washington State Designated Mental Health Professionals] See: acronym, MHP.

WADV = Women Against Domestic Violence

WAEYC = Washington Association for the Education of Young Children, the Washington State affiliate of NAEYC, the nation's largest organization dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of early care and education programs for children from birth to eight years of age. WAEYC is comprised of nearly 2,000 members in local affiliate chapters throughout the state.

WAMI =  Washington Advocates for the Mentally Ill addresses the unmet needs of individuals with mental illness and their families through advocacy, self help and support groups, public education and referral. Address: 802 NW 70th Street, Seattle, Washington 98117-5135.

WAMCD = Washington Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development. This is one of the six divisions of WCA.

WAMFT = Washington Association for Marriage and Family Therapy

WaProCA = Washington Professional Counselors Association. In September 2006, registered counselors began meeting and organizing in order to respond to the proposed legislation intended to eliminate registered counselors in Washington State. They incorporated, hired a lobbyist, and managed to defeat the bill in 2007. 

WASC = Western Association of Schools and Colleges, a regional accrediting association for American Samoa, California, Guam, Hawaii, and the Trust Territory of the Pacific.

WASERVIC = Washington Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling. This is one of the six divisions of WCA.

WASL = Washington Assessment of Student Learning, standard tests administered to fourth, seventh and 10th graders in Washington State.

WASOTP = Washington Association of Sexual Offender Treatment Providers

WASTE Time = an acronym for working with clients presenting with sexual addiction. Each letter corresponds with one of the diagnostic criteria for sexual addiction. W--Withdrawal, A--Adverse Consequences, S--Inability to Stop, T--Tolerance or Intensity, E--Escape, Time (in two time domains) 1. Time Spent (preparing, engaging, or recovering), 2. Time Wasted. Bryce Hagedorn, PhD, LMHC, NCC, MAC in "The National Certified Counselor" a publication of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Volume 21, Number 1, Fall/Winter 2004, page 1.]

WATR = Wisconsin Art Therapist, Registered.

WATSA = Washington Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, a state chapter of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, an international organization focused specifically on the prevention of sexual abuse through effective management of sex offenders.

WCA = 1.  Washington Counseling Association,  2. Wyoming Counseling Association  [Both are  state affiliates of the American Counseling Association.] 3. Washington Community Action (formerly known, until Fall 2005, Washington Citizen Action) motto: "Making democracy work, one person at a time."

WCCVA = Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates is a broad-based coalition of individuals and crime victim service providers across the state of Washington, including community-based non-profit organizations, victim advocates in prosecutor's offices and law enforcement agencies, government-run victim services programs, and crime victim counselors as well as concerned citizens.

WCDA = Washington Career Development Association. It is one of the six divisions of WCA.

WCPCAN = Washington Council for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect / Children's Trust Fund of Washington is the Washington State recipient of federal funds through the Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) program.

WCSAP = Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs: website with frequently asked questions about sexual assault, working with survivors, information and resources regarding child sexual abuse, intimate partner sexual violence, sexual assault program management, and the WCSAP lending library.

WCSJ = Washington Counselors for Social Justice, a new affiliate of Washington Counselors Association in 2005.

WDTR = Wisconsin Dance Therapist, Registered

WER = Work Education Release Program located at the King County Courthouse in Seattle. [Thanks to Vanessa Bacon.]

WestCAPT = Western Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies --one of six regional centers funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).

WFPS = WorkFirst Program Specialist (referring to a program designed to provide training to help persons in public assistance programs find employment and get off the welfare roles.)

WFSW = WorkFirst Social Worker

WHO = World Health Organization

WHPS = Washington Health Professional Services "is a confidential program for chemically impaired health professionals.  WHPS ensures early entry into recovery for the impaired practitioner while providing maximal protection of the public safety by identifying, assessing, and monitoring health care professionals and attracting the professional on a self-referral basis." WIA = Workforce Investment Act of 1998 is a federal law designed to overhaul and replace 60 federal job-training program and other workforce development activities.

WIC = a program offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.

WICS = Widowed Information and Consultation Services in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties, Washington State.

WICHE = Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education

WILMA = Washington's Interactive Labor Market Access [Now known as the Workforce Explorer, Washington State.]

WIMHCA = Wisconsin Mental Health Counselors Association.

WITS = Women in the Solution, a closed online women's group of Alcoholics Anonymous.

WMHC = Washington Mental Health Counseling Association.

WMTR = Wisconsin Music Therapist, Registered

WNV = West Nile virus

WOW or WOWVA = Women Organizing Women, Veteran Advocacy for women who served in the military. Advocacy network provides vital information regarding services and benefits available to women veterans and their healthcare providers, including PTSD claims for sexually assaulted vets. WPA = Washington Practitioner Application

WPAS = Washington Protection & Advocacy System is a private, non-profit organization that has been protecting the rights of people with disabilities in the state of Washington since 1972.  Every state and territory of the United States has an organization like WPAS, designated to provide independent protection and advocacy services to eligible people.  WPAS' services are free.

WPMH = Working Group of Professionals in Mental Health, operating under the Global Council for Mental Health, part of WHO..

WSACDTPA = Washington State Adolescent Chemical Dependency Treatment Providers Association. [Thanks to Sabrina de la Fuente.]

WSACES = Washington State Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, one of the divisions of WCA.

WSADCP   Washington State Association of Drug Court Professionals

WSAIOP = Washington State Association of Independent Outpatient Providers, professional organization for Washington state approved outpatient chemical dependency treatment providers.

WSBA = Washington State Bar Association, an administrative arm of the Washington State Supreme Court. It administers the admissions, licensing, and discipline functions for the lawyers in Washington State.

WSCA = Washington School Counselor Association. This is one of the six divisions of WCA.

WSCADV = Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence offers a broad range of information: Are you abusing?, DV victims & survivors, teens and dating violence, "get help in your state (a US directory), info for kids and service providers, and what you can do to help.

WSCJTC = Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission

WSW = women who have sex with women

WVSCA = West Virginia School Counselor Association

WWMHW = Who's Who in Mental Health on the Web

www = world wide web, referring to the linking of servers around the world to make information available through your computer browser.

WWWRSW = World Wide Web Resources for Social Workers has closed down as of January of 2005.  Information for Practice (IP) will continue to live on in an expanded form. The new IP will have a monthly archive (a form of monthly digest like the old IP) that is designed to help social service professionals throughout the world conveniently maintain an awareness of news and emerging scholarship regarding the profession.
