Groups designated as "ongoing and
continuous" groups admit new members periodically and members
leave when they feel they've accomplished their therapy goals.
Groups designated as "educational" or "closed' meet for a
indicated time period. This site offers information regarding
groups, group therapy, and group therapy professionals in the
greater Seattle, King, Pierce & Snohomish County area. Nothing here
should be construed as a suggestion regarding treatment nor as
an endorsement of a professional or therapeutic method. Contact
the provider regarding their professional qualifications, fees,
theoretical orientation, and the appropriateness of the process
for the treatment you are seeking.
On Telephone Calls to
Therapists
As a webmaster, I frequently
call counselors and I am caught off balance when I don't get an
answering machine. I say, "Excuse me, I was expecting to talk to a
machine and wasn't expecting to talk to a real person!"
Counselors in private practice
are small business people--really small--and usually have no employees.
Counselors usually handle the telephone, counsel individual clients and
groups, get the mail, write the letters, do the bookkeeping, market their
practices, do the taxes and everything else that needs to be done to stay in business.
Counselors in private practice often see clients in the evening, so it is
usually better to call in the morning.
All this to explain that when
you finally decide to call a counselor and see about joining a therapy
group, you will probably get an answering machine. It may take a
couple of days for the counselor to get back to you. Even if they
call you back immediately, if there is another voice on your
answering machine they may be afraid that they will be violating your
confidentiality if they leave a message for you where someone else may
hear them. So they may have to hang up without leaving a message.
Be sure when you leave your message that you tell the counselor whether
it's all right to leave a message when he or she calls back.
Counselors in private practice
often meet with clients in the evening, so it is often better to call them
in the morning.
And finally, if you don't hear
back--please call again. Leave your name and telephone number.
Say the number slowly and distinctly and say it twice. I can
remember listening to messages as many as twelve times trying to identify
all the numbers. Counselors really try, but you've got to do your
part too. Thanks.
